Huge Early 1700's Verdure Aubusson Tapestry

$15,300.00

French Aubusson woven tapestry from the early 1700's depicting a lizard standing in luscious vegetation. Created in Aubusson, located in central France. Interestingly this vertical woven tapestry would have once been part of a much larger landscape tapestry, divided into 3 or 4 more practical sections around the 1890's. On the right-hand side you can see clues of this in the lighter colouring of the boarder. Some very old repairs can be seen around the base of the tapestry.

The tapestry presents green, blue, beige and brown tones and is surrounded by an ornate border. The back still has its original lining and is hung on a simple and effective velcro system.

H 268cm, W 194cm

Please reachout with any questions.
